I watched a cat die today.

I was on my way to a meeting with my art professor and was chatting with some friends in the parking lot and a car pulling out of a handicap parking space caught my attention. To my shock as the car pulled away I saw a very still black cat curled up in the middle of the space. My friends and I are worried it was already dead.

We walked over and then suddenly the cat lifted its head. We couldn't tell if it was napping or if it had been hit. People started coming over to see why the three of us were just staring down at the ground in the middle of a parking space. The cat tried to get up and then it became apparent that it's back legs were useless. A classmate I know walked up and was like "Oh man I just saw this cat get hit by a truck!" And said truck did not stick around to see what it hit. Disgusts me.

The group and I discussed what would be the best course of action, and who knew of a vet in the city. One of the guys got a hold of a vet that was willing to come and pic up the cat. Most of the people had obligations but there were 5 of us that could stay with the cat until the vet technitian arrived.

It was really touching how a group of complete strangers would band together to help this cat be comfortable. We got water for her, we lavished her with attention as much as we could without hurting the poor thing.

It was heartbreaking watching her spasm and pant while we waiting anxiously for the vet technitian to arrive.

Sadly, there was just too much damage and she passed on about 5 minutes before the vet arrived. We still waiting for the vet to arrive and she took away the body.

Today, was not a good day. But it does give me hope for the goodness of people.
